Whole Wheat Bread
Yesterday I made a batch of whole wheat bread using a recipe I had never tried before, and the result was pure wholesome deliciousness.
The recipe (found here) was simple and straightforward, and it came together beautifully. I used freshly ground hard winter wheat, and the slight amount of white flour the recipe calls for gives it just enough lightness to make it suitable for sandwiches as well. I think next time I'll had an extra teaspoon of salt, but other than that the recipe was perfect, and one I will be making again and again.

Foli
It's been overcast and rainy the last couple of days, and I needed a little perk-me-up. And if I were to spontaneously burst into a Julie Andrews impersonation, this would deffo be listed as one of my favourite things.
It makes me happy.

Crystal Boughs
My last entry was a bit too... well, gloomy. So I thought I'd cheer things up around here.
I took this during the snow we had. I was sledding with the little boys, and when I was lying on the ground after a crash, I looked up and saw the icy limbs sparkling in the sunlight. Then I thought "Oooh, pretty," and got my camera.
Much better.

When in Doubt, Bake It
Yesterday morning I made baked oatmeal-- warm, wholesome, and cinnamon-y, with chunks of juicy-sweet apples, plump raisins, and baked until the edges are nice and crispy. Because as we all know, the edges are the best part.
It looks ugly in the pan, but looks can be deceiving. Delicious served with cream, this breakfast is a family favourite. Even those of us who don't even like oatmeal will eat this up.

Roast Sticky Gallus Gallus Domesticus
The other night we made roast sticky chicken for supper, served with whole grain brown rice, buttery baby carrots, and steamed broccoli. Mmm... so good. We've made roast sticky chicken for years now, and we have it nearly every other week.
The recipe can be found here, and we also add a chopped onion into the cavity of each chicken. It's a simple, no-fail recipe, and produces the most tender, flavourful chicken every time. Leftovers make the best sandwiches, soups, and chicken bog.

Speaking of Chocolate....
The last line of my previous post left me craving.
So I whipped up a pan of these babies, which my family then promptly devoured.
The recipe can be found here. I've made these before by substituting whole wheat pastry flour and sucanat for the white flour and sugar, with equally tasty results.

I Dream Of Cheese-y
Because is there anything better than warm, gooey, melty cheese topped with crispy bacon? I think not.

John 1:5
This is one of the first pictures I ever took when I began this little hobby. I realise now that the composition needs improvement... but, hey ho, as Binky says. At least he likes it.
